About Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative
Based at Penn, our social innovation hub collaborates with a diverse array of partners to advance LGBTQ+ health.
Our Vision
Eidos envisions a world where every person, regardless of their background or circumstance, has the opportunity to live a full and healthy life.
Our Mission
Eidos is dedicated to advancing LGBTQ+ health and strengthening public health for all. We convene and collaborate with experts and organizations across industries and disciplines to develop groundbreaking science, products, public policy and novel solutions that improve lives across a spectrum of social, economic, and behavioral factors.

From Penn, to the World
Founded at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing, Eidos brings together experts across all 12 Penn schools, spanning disciplines to forge novel connections. As proud stewards and practitioners of the University’s strategic framework, In Principle and Practice, we enable interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and innovative solutions to global challenges. Our commitment to these principles ensures that our work not only advances LGBTQ+ health but also contributes to the well-being of the global community.

Why 'Eidos?'
The word eidos means “form” in ancient Greek, a concept developed by Plato and Socrates to explore how ideas take meaningful shape in society. At Eidos, we embrace this philosophy by reimagining and transforming ideas to create real-world solutions that will make a lasting impact in the world.

Our People
Founded by Dr. José A. Bauermeister, the Eidos ecosystem is built on collaboration, made up of our core team, affiliated faculty across all Penn schools, and our advisory board. These are the people who drive our mission forward.
The World We See
Everyday we work to create a world where health disparities are eliminated and everyone can thrive.
SUCCESS STORIES
"I truly believe that to meaningfully build health equity, we are going to need more innovation that’s developed with industry-leading partners like Eidos. In healthcare, innovation cannot happen in a vacuum. Partnering with the Eidos team is enabling Violet to innovate, research our impact on clinical impact, and iterate in a seamless manner."
Gaurang Choksi
"Some of the most important advances to benefit health and society at large can only happen at the interface between disciplines. Thanks to José, I’ve been able to bring my work as a mechanical engineer together with collaborators in public health, medicine, materials science, and social science to advance new and viable technology to reduce the spread of HIV."
Robert Carpick, PhD
"Eidos partnered with us to host an engaging panel discussion and immersive workshops for the Seed internal team around the importance of neutral, anatomy-first language in the healthcare space. Throughout our entire partnership—from initial meetings, to curating the discussion content, to gathering together the most impactful group of experts for the panel—the Eidos team (and their work) was incredibly supportive, excitingly collaborative, and deeply considered."
