UPenn’s ‘Eidos’ Project Tackles LGBTQ+ Health Inequity, Discrimination

“The number one problem that LGBTQ people face is discrimination and stigma,” Eidos Senior Director Jessica Halem tells Insight into Diversity. Recent studies back this assertion, reflecting that LGBTQ+ patients are likely to delay care due to disrespect and discrimination. Eidos works with a wide variety of stakeholders working to improve LGBTQ+ health. These including start-ups, like the Trace app, researchers, like Project SLIP, and student groups. “Even when the world is against us, we persevere, and that for me is the kind of story that I want health care to figure out and bottle,” says Halem.
