In November 2021, the University of Pennsylvania announced a $750 million investment to advance various fields, including medicine, public health, science, and technology. Eidos founder José Bauermeister recognized this as an opportunity to address LGBTQ+ health issues that have often been overlooked. He conceived Eidos as a place to create innovative health solutions for the LGBTQ+ community by connecting experts from diverse fields.
“As I thought about what an academic research center should look like in the 21st century, I realized that Penn has an abundance of knowledge and talent that can advance social innovation. We want to demonstrate that we have the expertise, knowledge, and commitment to help advance their ventures or research,” Bauermeister says.
