Point of Pride, with support from the University of Pennsylvania’s Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative, is leading a national health survey created by and for transgender people. Set to launch in August 2025, the survey seeks to collect data on trans people’s experiences with gender-affirming care in order to expand the evidence guiding trans health in the U.S. and advance health equity.
Point of Pride is a national nonprofit providing direct financial aid and health-related resources to transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming individuals in need of care. Their programs include financial aid towards gender-affirming care like surgery, HRT, permanent hair removal services, and more, as well as the distribution of over 29,000 free chest binders and shapewear garments. To date, the organization has awarded over $3.6 million in aid across all its programs.
Their work comes at a critical time. In 2025, transgender, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary individuals continue to face mounting discrimination, politicized attacks, and increasing barriers to care. Despite growing media attention, there is still a lack of research that centers trans voices or reflects the full spectrum of trans experiences.
The Point of Pride National Trans Health Survey aims to address that gap. Drawing inspiration from landmark projects like the 2022 U.S. Transgender Survey, this initiative aims to gather up-to-date, community driven data on transgender health.
“This survey is built by and for trans people, with the intention of creating a future where trans health is rooted in safety, access, joy, and autonomy. We’re collecting insights to better understand not just the barriers trans people face, but also what it looks like when care is joyful, accessible, and affirming.
Our goal is to collect data that can directly inform future programs and initiatives—and we’re thrilled to partner with Eidos, whose expertise and guidance in survey design are helping ensure this work is thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful.”Aydian Dowling, Chief Advancement Officer & Co-Founder, Point of Pride

To support the development of the survey with scientific rigor, Point of Pride turned to the Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative, a social innovation hub at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Eidos brings together community leaders, researchers, and public health experts to advance LGBTQ+ health equity.
Faculty and research specialists at Eidos are advising on the survey’s design and structure, including research infrastructure, capacity-building, and the formation of a trans-led community advisory board to guide the work.
“Our mission is to advance LGBTQ+ health by supporting the people and organizations who live this work every day. Rooted in a community-led approach, we help visionary LGBTQ+ organizations like Point of Pride access the tools, research support, and collaboration they need to turn bold ideas into impact.”
